Horse Market has a 30% Tax?!

Main Post:

So I noticed a discrepancy between the money the market says I should be making from selling/breeding horses and how much I actually receive. I ran the numbers and it seems I'm only collecting 70% of what the market says I should be making. This means that the horse market is taxing a whopping 30% tax on sales. Am I the only one that find this to be a ridiculously high sales tax?

Top Comment:

Try all markets.

Arabian content tax 😜

Main Post:

here’s my purebred arab šŸ™‚ standing at a whopping 16.2hh nowadays at 5 years old he’s the biggest in our barn (arabs only)

A little about ā€œSeeking Fame Vā€ (sorry I’m a sap for my horse)

He was started very early (šŸ™) and did hunter pleasure from 2-3 years old, (last two photos are him at 3 when I purchased him!) I bought him right before he turned four and we showed hunters once and decided it wasn’t for us, moved to western pleasure, decided that he was not happy with it. now in his 5 year old year we are showing ranch riding, horsemanship, western dressage, and he shows hunter with a little walk trotter. I teach at a lesson barn and he’s a part time lesson horse! For fun we’re currently learning breakaway!

I’m sharing our story to show that Arabs are SO versatile and can quite literally be used for anything!!

Questions are so welcomed, I’m very versed in this little world of Arabs that I’ve created!!

Top Comment: He’s absolutely stunning! I love that shade of chestnut. I got my purebred gelding at 3yo too and he’s turning 26 this year. They’re the BEST!

Why is there a sales tax on horses?

Main Post:

There's no warning to suggest that this is working as intended. I'm sure it is but can we at least get the warning and the value pack equivalent for these sales?

Top Comment:

The reason behind taxes on horse is this, i have a T8 lv30 has 2x breeds, each breed cost (32 mills), so if i want to benefit my friend, i can sell the horse to him/her so they can use the breed then get them to sell the horse back to me, taxes there to reduce or discourage that.

As for the warning, i agree they need to add that and also the value pack benefit.

horses selling and stables Taxes ? what is the best city to sell horses

Main Post:

hello everyone i want to ask where is the best place to sell horses and how much Taxes stables take

and i want to know the Stables Taxes in all the citys if they are Different

the value package dosent work with selling horses i wonder if there anything makes selling horses less taxes

Top Comment:

30% tax is taken in every city, game system tax not guild tax, so you can't run from it, even value pack doesn't decrease the tax :(

Dream horse prices

Main Post:

I dont know what the situation is like in other servers but i have been trying to sell my pegasus for a month and a half in my server. He sells for around 10b, at157 speed full skills so not great but not that bad for a dream horse. I think there should be a system like the central market where horse prices goes down if they dont sell for a while. Or at least remove the high tax so people wont be that afraid to buy horses.

Top Comment: when pearl abyss increased the price of dream horses they went from one extreme to another, before, they sold for ~3.5bil which is just chump change compared to the work to get them, now with the central market and the new change they sell from 10-12 bil which is a tet ogre, and when you have both option's in front of you it's a clear choice for most players on how to spend that 12bil, they need to take them to a sweet spot where they are both accessible for people who want them but don't sit and rot on the market. probably should be like ~7-8bil

Update on Robo-advisor Horse Race (Betterment, WealthFront, Schwab Intelligent Portfolios vs DIY)

Main Post:

New Post is here: https://redd.it/8vo1u3

Since February I've had a little money with each of Betterment, WealthFront, and Schwab Intelligent Portfolios. I'm comparing how the robo-advisors do to my own DIY Index ETF portfolio of 32% SCHX, 8% SCHA, 25% SCHF, 30% SCHZ, and 5% Cash. The Robo-advisors are set to whatever "risk" level is closest to 65% equities.

Original Post and 1st Update.

I get one or two PMs each month asking for an update, and the old thread finally hit 6 months so I figured I'd start a new one. Mods, if you find this annoying, let me know and I'll just update via PM or edit old threads or whatever. But about half the PMs are people stumbling on the post via a search, apparently, so maybe it's good to have newer stuff in the search results.

One significant addition going forward. I mentioned in the original post that I'm interested in Robo-advisors because I could literally spend no time at all thinking about money, and if that were the case I might be more comfortable with more than 65% equities. So, I added another WealthFront account at risk level 9, which is 92.5% equities. I'm not sure I'd go that far with my whole portfolio, but I might. Hopefully we get a correction/crash soon so I can see how much worse the High Equity Horse does and whether I think I could stomach that. I just barely added the HEH during October, so no results on that yet, but expect it to start showing up in monthly updates in the comments.

Anyway, here is the February-October data.

I should mention that WF harvested 2.1% of tax losses, so in the 10% marginal bracket they would be at 10.12% instead of 9.88%.

I should also reiterate that this is not investment advice, I have no relationship with any of the roboadvisors, I've been a Schwab fanboy for many years and I'm disappointed that SIP isn't performing as well as the others. I think it's too early to draw any firm conclusions, but that cuts both ways. You shouldn't race over to WF and stick all your money there because of this dinky post, but on the other hand if someone says they're going to stick everything at WF you shouldn't berate them for paying a 0.25% fee instead of doing it themselves.

Personally, aside from opening the HEH account, I'm keeping everything on the same plan as before, DIY indexing. If there is a market correction of 10%-ish and B or WF continue to match/outperform DIY, then I'll probably start adding new money to a robo-advisor and maybe even shifting old money over when the capital gains wouldn't hurt.

ETA: u/m3ghost has a more aggressive allocation with SIP and has provided me monthly returns from the same starting date, which I've added as SIP2. To be clear, this isn't exactly a fair comparison since it's not 65% equities so presumably it has different risk. Time will tell, and I figure more data is never bad, so I'll try to include it in future updates. I might also open my own more aggressive SIP like I have done with WF.

Top Comment:

I’m glad I found this post. I moved my taxable account to wealthfront about a month ago just because I figured the TLH justifies the .25% and not having to worry about it. I kept my Roth in a target date at Vanguard though since no TLH for that. WF is pretty heavy on EM I figure that’s why it’s beating Betterment. I really like the aesthetic of betterment’s site but ever since WF introduced path I think their financial planning software is better.

Does the Value pack Market Collection buff work for the Horse market as well?

Main Post:

Anyone test this yet? Would love to keep more of my horses value rather than give it to the virtual tax man.

EDIT: It does not work. Still a 30% tax even with value pack applied.

Top Comment:

I thought horses arent taxed
